View Full Version : Fwd: [Dixonary] Round 2729: Vote Your Consciousness: [ philodox ]

—Judge Keith—
July 29th, 2016, 10:15 PM
*Special note: it seems that no one received the list but me --- so i HAVE
revised it to include 2 slightly late submissions. There should be some
benefit to this extreme weirdness that is likely my own fault somehow!*

I'm very sorry that the list didn't get out and i didn't know for about 25
hours due to traveling and sleep! ]#8

To: "dixonary (AT) googlegroups (DOT) com" <dixonary (AT) googlegroups (DOT) com>

We're close to my long submission deadline, about 40 minutes. So i'm
now going to reveal our list of player-concocted definitions - and
just for fun, i threw in one from an actual dictionary! (There were
zero DQs, bee-tee-dubbleyew.)

Please vote for 2 definitions, as a group message (reply to this), or
on the public forum, before the deadline, which is 10AM (1000) on
Saturday, 30 July, 2016 C.E.: US Central Time Zone or the
corresponding time in your time local zone.

If, upon perusing the list you are sure that you can see the real
definition, PLEASE do not vote, - OR hit "Reply" at all. Instead,
please send me a private email to [ thoughtstorms (AT) gmail (DOT) com ] telling
me that you have to disqualify yourself. Keeps it fair, and hopefully
won't happen much.

New players are always welcome, you may vote even if you didn't submit
a definition.

1> the love of religious laws.
2> A treatise that compares and contrasts two or more political doctrines.
3> a garden plant having clusters of pale blue flowers.
4> a vain person, a narcissist [from Greek philos, love, and doxa,
appearance, glory]
5> a species of vines that spread by developing roots at the leaf nodes.
6> A detailed imaginary world created inside the mind, especially of
a child; may have a definite history, geography and language.
7> a large genus of flowering plants in the Araceae family, the
second-largest member of the arum family.
8> A person with an excessive interest in his own opinions.
9> A flowering plant in the Delphinium family.
10> someone who pretends to be someone they're not using social media
to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online
romances.
11> Any of several flowers of the family Polemoniaceae, distinguished
by having five sepals, five petals fused, and five stamens that
alternate with the lobes of the corolla.
12> philodox: a container for letters and personal correspondence.
13> a proposition consisting of two or more equivalent statements

Another word for #8 would be a 'bore'. I'll vote for that and 2.

I've been absent for a while and thusa bit out of practice. I'll have one
that's a plant and one that's not: 2 and 11

Hi

I have just got online for the first time since last Tuesday as we are
on holiday in N France and .... so I missed all the excitement of no
posts (although I can see what looks like to be most everything) - But I
would probably have DQ'd anyway so Keith's pun on my name in the
announcement is fulfilled - I definitely DQ on seeing the defs

I do not gaurantee any regular attendance here for the next couple of
weeks as internet is very sporadic - expect me when you see me

The deadline looks like just under 12 hours from the time this version went out. Was it perhaps left over from the first one that nobody got?

That said, since I'm looking at this, I might as well vote. I don't believe any of the flowers; they look too much like riffs on "phlox." The connection to "philos," on the other hand, could be real. I'll try 1 and 8.

*Additional Special Note:* i was rushing to get to work when i {re?}posted
this, and so i forgot to adjust the voting deadline. I will try revising
it below:

Please vote for 2 definitions, as a group message (reply to this), or
on the public forum, before the deadline, which is 11AM (1000) on
Sunday, 30 July, 2016 C.E.: US Central Time Zone or the
corresponding time in your time local zone.

I've really committed some egregious errors in my last several deals, and i
am very sorry. I'm not sure why the list didn't go out when it seemed to
have, but either my tech or i or most probably both screwed up. Thanks for
your patience!

Oh, i greatly appreciate the "picked nits"! 31 July is correct, 11AM (

often!)

Well, I'll stick with the flowers, choosing two that sound especially pretty:

9> A flowering plant in the Delphinium family.

11> Any of several flowers of the family Polemoniaceae, distinguished
by having five sepals, five petals fused, and five stamens that
alternate with the lobes of the corolla.
