View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2723 DUDEEN - Call for votes

Tim B
July 8th, 2016, 07:42 AM
Please vote for TWO definitions, as a public forum message (in reply to this one), before the
deadline, which is 10 pm BST (2100 UTC/GMT) on Saturday 9th July. That might well be 5 pm EDT and 2
pm PDT, but don't take my word for it. I hope that's a long enough deadline; it was either that or
12 noon on Sunday, 14 hours later.

New players are welcome, even if you didn't enter a definition this round. Don't look in a
dictionary. Full rules, if you're curious, can be seen at www.dixonary.net.

1: [Gael.] a stew-pot.

2: [Irish] a wet nurse.

3: a person who does piecework.

4: [Scots] without doubt; certainly.

5: a short tobacco pipe made of clay.

6: (Austr. sl.) an extreme heat wave.

7: power to attract through personal charm.

8: a dangerous switch-back or curve in a road.

9: a large bowl-shaped utensil for holding fire.

10: [Irish sl.] a drunken Scot (poss. fr. _Aberdeen_)

11: [Sc.] Inferior liquor; a public house that sells this.

12: a mixture of barley, oats and wheat used as fodder for cattle or horses.

13: [also Irish dhudeen] dudgeon, resentment or outrage expressed as violence.

14: a female city dweller visiting a Western tourist ranch, often called a "dude ranch."

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.
