This is a test of posting using the LYNX console app text-
only browser.

David,

I'm replying to your post using Nettamer and the public Lynx bropwser at guest.sailor.lib.md.us (via Telnet).
It's a very awkward way to communicate, but I'm anxious to see the results of my attempt.

It worked... nice to know this system really is open to all.

John,

Glad to see that it worked for you.

I assume that the authentication to get into this forum does not require SSL. A public LYNX server such as sailor would not be a secure way to log in, even with SSL, since the TELNET connection to the LYNX server would be unencrypted plain text, so they would have configured it NOT to use SSL even if the particular build of LYNX might support SSL.

I am using a LYNX program installed on my PC with the default color scheme that came with the particular build of the LYNX.EXE. I suppose that if one is using the LYNX server then one would not have any choice of what the color scheme for the text would be.

I'm replying here now with LYNX.
The quick reply seemed to automatically do a quote, which I
intended NOT to do in this trial. So I don't know exactly
what's happening.
Anyway, I did confirm that it is possible to use the user
control panel with LYNX. I set my options to use the basic
text editor instead of the "standard editor" in the hope
that the screen would then be less cluttered during
posting.

So here goes, let's see what happens when I hit the post
button whatever.

John,
I also set my display mode to linear instead of the
default "threaded". Threaded required jscript and so will
not work with LYNX. "hybrid" message display mode might be
ok with lYNX too.
This message display option can also be set by the user
control panel.
