View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2722: Vote for LINACEOUS

Hugo Kornelis
July 3rd, 2016, 03:10 AM
Hi all!

In Dutch, we have an expression that literally translates to "thirteen
in a dozen", and that is used for anything that is very boring,
ordinary, dull and bland.
That is definitely not applicable to the thirteen definitions, coming
from a dozen players and one dictionary, for LINACEOUS.

Please select from this list the two you find the most credible, or the
most worthy of receiving points, and share your thoughts by public reply
to this message.
Do so before Monday, 14:00 (2:00pm for the 12-hour impaired) in the CEST
time zone (which is a little less than 26 hours after the time of
posting this message).

Cheers,
Hugo

For some reason, I have not received ANY messages posted by Hugo on the dixonary board. Neither announcement of the word (licentious or linaceous) nor posting of the defs. Any idea why?

in Britain: 13 used to be (before metrification) a baker's dozen - we
apparently expected, and got, 1 extra from the baker.

Since we got decimalised I have heard of 10 being called a metric dozen
but alas there is no longer the romance of a metric baker's dozen!

Hi Mike,

I certainly have no clue. I definitely did not do anything special to
single you out.
You do receive the other messages?

If you do receive other messages but do not receive mine, then I suggest
checking your spam filter. I have had a similar issue with mails from
one specific person on another mailing list. My most likely explanation
is that something, somewhere in the route between my email server and
the list server, adds a text to the mail headers that triggers your spam
filter.

Cheers,
Hugo
