Speaking of ailments, yours truly is dealing with cognitive decline. In
other words, who did you say you are? I am trying to attach a document
about it, and I think it worked. The article's title mentions a "novel
therapeutic program. By "novel" I hope the author doesn't mean fiction
(a lame joke).

My husband thinks this started when I switched from 2 cups of coffee in
the morning to one cup. I hope he's right. Personally I think decline is
caused by a deficit of ice cream, especially chocolate. Yup, that's
undoubtedly the cause.

Guerri,

If you can understand that document, you are about as far from cognitive
decline as possible, unless you were a former Nobel laureate, in which
case now you are a mere genius.

I don't know that anyone normal actually can read that stuff... there
are all those words that no-one could remember like amyloidogenetic (or
of course non amyloidogenetic) and if you remember them then you
probably also know what they mean. Otherwise such papers are an attempt
to confusticate the average reader and the authors should be referred
back (or returned back) to the cage from which they escaped - sAPPα
which inhibits BACE cleavage and is probably expressed on the ε4 allele
of ApoE.

indeed!

Having read it, attempted to learn from it and meditated on it (as
prescribed) I am firmly of the conclusion that I sympathise with the
mice in the transgenic mouse studies.

I'm going to have to *gain* function to create an email as clever as that.
And I subscribe, wholeheartedly to the more coffee and ice cream
treatment. 😀

The cause of the cognitive decline. Mine, that is. I admit that I have
not really paid attention, but some days my thinking seems sharp and
clear and other days it seems fuzzy. But is this new? Is there a
decline? Or were things always like this and I just didn't notice?

Of course there is always the possibility that one should avoid saying
anything about one's health status or change in it to one's spouse. Who
might think some action should be taken. As an example, he wanted me to
consult a doctor about cognitive decline. The doctor administered a
little quiz. I think there were 30 questions and I was easily able to
deal with 27 of them. I am pretty sure that you can find this online,
although the questions may not be exactly the same as the ones I was
given. The test is pretty hard: for instance, you have to know things
like the season you are in. And there are commands that you have to
execute such as taking a piece of paper, folding it in half, and putting
it on the floor (I suggested that this was littering but this attempt at
humor was not well received). When I told my husband I got 27, he said
it should have been 30. We are still married.

Later I was doing research online and assuming it was the same test
being discussed, a passing score is 24!

Well I am not yet implementing anything. I think just having the
document on hand has improved my mind. On the other hand, I am having 2
cups of coffee today.

I keep intending to really *read* the thing again.
