Here are 17 rather exotic defs of the word YIDAKI, only one of which came
from my dictionary. Please vote for your two favourites by public reply to
this message before the deadline of:

21:00 CET on Sunday 22nd May
or 20:00 BST for the dealer
or 19:00 UTC
or 3:00 PM EDT
or 12:00 midday PDT
or 05:00 AEST on Monday in Melbourne
or 07:00 NZST on Monday in Wellington

1. a make-shift canoe.
2. prehistoric lake dwelling.
3. Chiefly _Austral._ A didgeridoo.
4. An edible seaweed with a strong flavor.
5. A statuette carved from tropical hardwood.
6. The Japanese title for the Scrabble® word game.
7. a pygmy gazelle of northern to northwestern Africa.
8. felt slippers worn in Japan to protect polished floors.
9. a warrior class of feudal Japan, ranking just below samurai.
10. a Japanese nanny who specializes in toilet training toddlers.
11. a ghostly demon featured in many traditional Japanese morality
tales.
12. (W.Afr.) An area of sacred land which the uninitiated are forbidden
to enter.
13. small-scale divine spirits in Japan that appear as omens, often
seen as animals.
14. a small edible marine oyster found on rocks of the coasts of South
Island, New Zealand.
15. a wedding tradition for the bride and groom to dress in identical
colors for the ceremony.
16. A Japanese dish of seasoned pork and rice wrapped in seaweed,
similar to stuffed grape leaves.
17. Brickwork in which headers and stretchers are alternated and laid
on edge on each face, creating a wall of two brick wythes thick with a
series of cavities between stretchers.

Sounds Japanese to me. Unfortunately, that still leaves seven choices. My wife thinks it sounds like a Japanese food, but I’ll vote for 8 and 13 anyhow.

I might have considered 17 if it had rubble in the cavities. I kind of like
the idea of 6 but dont know if anything like Scrabble is possible in
Japanese - must find out. Nor do I know anything about Japanese toilet
training though I suspect that a nanny such as in 10 would have been
replaced by an electronic device.

I'll take the warrior and the demon - 9 and 11
