A short list again. Here are 14 definitions of TAAHELLYIK, one of which
came from a real dictionary.
Vote for your two favorites no later than 9 AM EDT, Thursday, May 19.

1. a curse [Afrikaans _taal_ speak + hell]

2. a thunderstorm; severe weather. [Mex. and southwest US. Orig. the
Aztec god of thunder and lightning.]

3. a rude four-wheeled, springless wagon, used among the Russians.

4. [Amish] a carriage with side curtains.

5. an Icelandic festival held on Mid-Winter’s Day, celebrating the
winter solstice.

6. the Icelandic pony; known for its distinctive gait during which at
least one foot always touches the ground.

7. a type of hardened steel piton.

8. traditional stew from northern Finland, based on reindeer meat and
rutabagas.

9. [Fin.] postage due (lit. _to pay_)

10. a breed of dog of Finnish origin used by Lapps (Samis) to herd
reindeer.

11. one of the flat stones laid along the lower edge of the roof under
the straw for running off the water.

12. an Indian dish made from boiling vegetables (spinach, eggplant,
beans, and other leafy vegetables) with fermented soya beans or
fermented fish and served with rice.

I'll try the Icelandic pony and the Finnish dog, 6 and 10, please.

What a choice! Finnish, Afrikaans, Icelandic, Amish etc. These defs all
look weird to me. I'll go for 4 & 5.

#5 reminds me of the uphellya festival so that sounds very good and for
something totally different I'll go for flat stones under thatch = #11 -
which must also be nordik in origin

so thats is #5 and #11 please
