Shani Naylor's love token box earns her the next deal with a natural 7.
No one guessed the real def (which JB came across quite by accident between
submitting
a def and voting). It is the female equivalent of the male baculum, or os
penis,
present in certain mammals including squirrels and walruses and bats (go
figure).

1. collective term for all types of military buildings; fortifications,
barracks, supply depots,
etc.
Submitter: Mallach Votes: 6 & 12 0 + 1 = 1
Voted for by: Lodge

2. [Arch.] a war which starts from trifling reasons.
Submitter: Barrs Vote: DQ DQ + 1 = 1
Voted for by: Hale

3. [Obs.] the space immediately within the outer wall of a castle or
fortress.

Submitter: Widdis Votes: 4 & 12 0 + 2 = 2
Voted for by: Hart; Naylor

4. a piece of jewelry of doubtful provenance and value.
Submitter: Bourne Votes: 6 & 10 0 + 2 = 2
Voted for by: Widdis; Madnick

5. [Arch.] a recompense, reward.
Submitter: Lodge Votes: 1 & 15 0 + 0 = 0
Voted for by:

6. _Icth._ a feeler on any of a number of fish. (pl. _baubella_ or
_baubells_)

Submitter: Cunningham Votes: 11 & 12 0 + 4 = 4
Voted for by: Mallach; Bourne; Schultz; Carson

7. an especially weak medicinal tincture, generally for toddlers and
young
children.
Submitter: Hale Votes: 2 & 12 0 + 0 = 0
Voted for by:

8. a bone in the clitoris, the os clitoridis.
Submitter: Dictionary Vote: N/A D0
Voted for by:

9. periodic gathering to evaluate readiness of men for combat.
Submitter: Madnick Votes: 4 & 12 0 + 0 = 0
Voted for by:

10. a defensive structure, usu. of posts or felled trees; a stockade.
Submitter: Hart Votes: 3 & 13 0 + 3 = 3
Voted for by: Bourne; Naylor; Stevens

11. a rainforest moss.
Submitter: Graham Votes: 13 & 15 0 + 1 = 1
Voted for by: Cunningham

12. (Vict.) a small box for storing locks of hair taken from loved ones
who have
died.
Submitter: Naylor Votes: 3 & 10 0 + 7 = 7
Voted for by: Mallach; Widdis; Cunningham; Hale; Madnick; Schultz;
Carson

13. a state of social disorder.
Submitter: Abell Votes: 14 & 15 0 + 3 = 3
Voted for by: Hart; Graham; Stevens

14. an Alpine goat.
Submitter: Schultz Votes: 6 & 12 0 + 1 = 1
Voted for by: Abell

15. an elaborate style of dress in the southern U.S. states during the
early
1800s.
Submitter: Stevens Votes: 10 & 13 0 + 3 = 3
Voted for by: Lodge; Graham; Abell

Lost def: Carson Votes: 6 & 12 2DP + 0 = 2

Count me among the latter: not shy, but didn’t believe it. Unfortunately for this purpose, my experience in that department is limited to humans.

Well done. That was a classic D0 - a definition that seemed to have no
logical connection to the word and merely looked like a weak attempt at
absurdity. The lack of both plausibility and wit meant I never gave it a
chance. More fool me.

Efrem - I agree with you about "not 100%" and that too was part of its
success. A patently false but very witty def will sometimes get a vote or
two by way of applause. This one fooled me because it looked as if its
author never expected to be believed but nor did it generate a chuckle.

Dodi

as I explained to Mike, I was sitting in a small ward with needles and
stuff dripping into me and we were talking Science Fiction when the plot
of a very early novel came up - I read it decades ago (but can remember
no details other than the story line) about a culture where the females
chose the father of their egg by eating all the other sperm - with teeth
in the - how shall I put it - sperm collection area. That of course
feeds into classic legends of male fears of emasculation - I did know of
the male counterpart (os penis, the baculum) but was unsure of the word
and when I got home I looked up baculum only to fall into baubellum and
hence a very late DQ
