For better or worse I am now winding up this round. Apologies for
getting the original deadline wrong, and then for changing it again.
Nancy is the only player who hasn't voted - I hope she won't hold it
against me.

In various parts of Asia, particularly India, a hartal is a day when
shops are closed, usually as a political protest or as a day of
mourning. No one voted for that but Johnny B disqualified himself so I
feel it's not a genuine D0.

Dodi's legal invocation fooled five of you, making her the next dealer,
while Dave Cunningham was close behind with the other property-related def.

1. a porter
- from Guerri Stevens who voted 2 and 7. Score = 3

2. a gift, present, or tip.
- from Tim Lodge who voted 1 and 11. Score = 3

3. Highly improbable or illusory.
- from Chris Carson who voted 13 and 17. Score = 0

4. space between corbels in a parapet
- from Judy Madnick who voted 1 and 2. Score = 1

5. A witch's trick or mischievous device.
- from Shani Naylor who voted 8 and 11. Score = 0

6. a sinus rhythm traced on a 12-lead EKG
- from Dick Weltz who voted 4 and 7. Score = 1

7. a unit of measure used by stone-cutters.
- from Nancy Shepherdson: n.v. Score = 2

8. [Scots] of doubtful provenance; suspect.
- from Tony Abell who voted 9 and 18. Score = 3

9. of or pertaining to a deer, esp. a mature male.
- from Tim Bourne. who voted 13 and 15. Score = 2

10. a stoppage of work in protest or boycott
- from Chambers: n.v. Score = D0

11. Having the heart or affections free; not in love.
- from Daniel Widdis who voted 8 and 14. Score = 2

12. At the midpoint of cyclical motion or oscillation.
- from Efrem Mallach who voted 13 and 17. Score = 0

13. property for which the right of the hunt is retained by a manor.
- from Dave Cunningham who voted 18 and 17. Score = 4

14. Weather pattern with intermittent fog and short, sporadic gusts of wind
- from Keith Hale who voted 6 and 9. Score = 1

15. A family group of the red deer of Europe, Asia and North Africa,
/Cervus elaphus/
- from Steve Graham who voted 13 and 17. Score = 1

16. a narrow woodworking plane with a beveled edge used in 18th century
German furniture making.
- from Mike Shefler who voted 2 and 17. Score = 0

17. an invocation of legal standing in a venue of a nonresident who can
claim a valid connection to that venue in the form of continued interest
in a property or established business within it.
- from Dodi Schultz who voted 1 and 8. Score = 5!!!!!

18. bitter hogsweed /_peucedanum officinale_/; in the UK it is now a
very rare plant of chalk marshes but more common in mainland Europe
although still rare there. As the specific name of/_officinale_/
indicates it has long been known to herbalists [Culpepper and Gerard]
and was used for control of the heart.
- from JohnnyB who was a DQ. Score = 2

No worries, Jim. Up to my ears in the American election and will probably
be voting sporadically for the next month or so until the Illinois primary
at least.

Congrats on D0. I wouldn't have guessed the real one anyway.

Nancy

Nancy, I expect that should occupy you for more like 8 or 9 months. Drop
in when you get a moment!
