Slim pickings, compensated by the cleverness and creativity of our contributors, who provide 13 fake defs for your consideration, along with the one that actually comes from a dictionary.

Please cast your votes by public message to the group on or before Thursday, January 28, at 10:00 AM EST or the equivalent in your time zone (extra time to allow for a Wednesday full of medical appointments).

Good luck to all.

-- Dick

Oops! Missed the deadline. It probably won't matter since most of the time you guys don't like my definition.

How about 1 and 14 just to get this over with quickly.

1 & 4, please! (I never even saw the last round results, let alone the new
word! I seem to fall into little time-warps.)

I'm pretty awkward, and I was in the New Forest last weekend, so I'll try 1
and 4:

1. sideways; more generally, awkwardly

4. [Dial. New Forest, UK] a pony which pulls to the left

It may not be a continuous thing. Two upstart states which nobody cares
about other than every 4 years, Iowa and New Hampshire, get the season
started in late January, and most of the horse race excitement fades by
"Super Tuesday" which will be March 1 this year. Then it's eight months
of hearing why you shouldn't vote for the other guy (or gal), but by
then everyone has candidate fatigue. So you have about five or six weeks
to buy my vote with allegations of lies, corruption, etc. while it's
still amusing and interesting. After that, you'll get negative votes. :)

I fear you omitted the real one. My votes to the authors of

9. [Naut. slang] an incompetent officer

and

11. Tiddlywinks. a shooter with a concave-beveled edge, now banned from tournament play
