Surprisingly -- to me -- five players selected/guessed the definition I had used for RUCK, a word that has several different and distinct meanings, according to my M-W.

Nevertheless, Jim Hart took the cupcake again with a total score of 6. Mike Shefler was the "real" winner with 5 points.

> 8. _Rugby._ A loose scrum

This is, as some will know, a correct alternative definition; I had to check whether to declare
myself DQ on this.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

As I explained to Dick shortly before the results came up, I'll be otherwise occupied today so won't be able to deal until this evening. By then half of you will be asleep.

I thought I was DQ for the Rugby def as well, but was put right by Dick when I queried it. The OED has 30 separate meanings for RUCK, so there was plenty of choice! It all worked out all right in this round, but personally I try to avoid words with multiple meanings.

Hi
I too thought I might be DQ for the same reason. I agree with Tim about
multiple meanings.

I could see about 5 of the defs that were there were possible real
meanings and as whether I chose the "right" (as in Dick's esoteric
choice) would depend almost entirely on the verbalisation of the
dictionary he had used then I declined to vote.

I hadn't then looked at OED but had told Dick that I could haul about
half-a-dozen meanings out of my head without really trying so I
suggested that he reconsider

In the past I had played a word with 3 meanings, (2 common which I
eliminated in the announcement) and been thoroughly rebuked.

Playing a word like that introduces a whole new set of variables into
the game and I personally do not think it is wise
