Dave Cunningham

Here are a goodly group of potential definitions for HOWK, for which kindly
vote for two without recourse to any dreaded dictionary. Deadline is 7
a.m. EST on 28 December to allow all the partiers to regain their senses
<g>.

1. to dig.
2. [Scots] drunk.
3. (_slang_) A dwarf.
4. projected spittle.
5. [also HOLK] to choke.
6. [Scots] thriving, plump.
7. tightly woven single-braid rope.
8. a long, slender cigar; a panatella.
9. [informal] an owl that attacks humans.
10. _Sc._ To cast, throw, or fling forward.
11. a totem or talisman to ward off curses.
12. nocturnal desert-dwelling jumping rodent.
13. a moveable night market common in parts of China and Southeast Asia.
14. to silence or put down (an objectionable speaker) by simulated
coughing.
15. To shout nonsense words when stretching; the sounds made while
stretching.
16. _Slang_ to beg on the streets falsely claiming homelessness, parental
or spouse abuse, service injury, etc.

Dave Cunningham, wishing all a wonderful New Year!
