View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2661 CHOUSE - Call for votes

Tim B
November 21st, 2015, 02:49 AM
Please vote for TWO definitions, as a public forum message (in reply to this one), before the
deadline, which is 9 pm GMT on Sunday 22nd November, also 2100 UTC. That will be 4 pm in New York, 1
pm on the West Coast, and can be calculated for other places in the usual way. Sorry I don't have
time to work it out for everyone, but I want to get this out in time to make that a fair deadline
and still be able to do the scoring tomorrow evening. For the same reason, I'm letting this go with
only 15 definitions, though it would have been nice to have more. Still, quality is more important
than quantity!

New players are welcome, even if you didn't enter a definition this round. Don't look in a
dictionary. Full rules, if you're curious, are available at dixonary.com.

1: to choose [obs.]

2: to cheat; to trick

3: rough to the touch.

4: a forester or woodcutter.

5: _obs._ to banish; to exile.

6: thickened fruit purée dessert.

7: the smell of over-ripened bananas.

8: to disappear gradually from sight.

9: [York. sl.] a loose woman, a prostitute.

10: [Scots] the bonnet or plate used for a collection in church.

11: the scraps of metal resulting from hand engraving, i.e. "chased."

12: a container for face powder or talcum; usu. made of glass with a decorative lid.

13: _naut._ to pack a seam between planks in the bottom of a vessel using a waterproof material.

14: an anabranch of a river, esp. one that is regularly cut off to form an oxbow during seasonal
drought.

15: a grammatical figure where an idea is expressed twice and emphasised by reversing the order of
the words or clauses in the re-statement.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

Another really weird one. I'll try one verb and one noun:

and

> 9: [York. sl.] a loose woman, a prostitute.
