Mike,

Nah, I had a feeling about Chacon and since Al Leiter ended up the winner, I should have thought that about him too! Al Leiter, I predict, is now the lefthanded relief specialist the Yankees have been missing since the glory days of Stanton. And what can you say about Mariano Rivera? The Angels have been the team that has been his downfall at least since 2002. I think that when ever since the Diamondbacks beat Mo in Game 7 in 2001 with that lousy bloop, broken-bat single over second base, he has been gunning for redemption. He got it tonight, regardless of whether the Yankees make it all the way to the World Series and to a championship. (I have to add that in 2001 when the Yankees were toppled by the last batter in the 7th game that it was meant to be. After all, where would the Yankees have celebrated? On Broadway past the WTC? I don't think so. I thought it was divine intervention then. But now I want another championship. It is time!

Anyhow, 3-2 Yankees! The Yankees win! On to California and game 5. Mussina vs Colon.

I like that matchup, not to forget that the Yankees middle relief did good tonight, in particular Leiter and Rivera, which means that Sturtze, Small and Gordon are all available for the 5th and deciding game in this nailbiting matchup!

Not yet at any rate! Gads, that Chacon looked terrific tonight... and what can be said about Mariano that hasn't already been said so many times?

I hope Moose shows up tonight. We have to jump on Colon early because he gets better as the game goes on. This will be a nailbiter!

Judy,

A good old-fashioned ear plug and a transistor radio tuned to the game and you'll never even know you have any students!

Unfortunately, it was a night when they were doing oral presentations, so I couldn't pretend...

You did not want to hear it. The umps had it in for the Yanks and the Yanks could not hit for a damn.

Honestly, we did better than I expected, with all of the injuries.

I just wonder what The Loon will do to the team.

Mike,

Well, the umps collectively didn't have it in for the Yankees, it's just that Joe West doesn't deserve to be a crew chief. He likes the limelight and the big call and he made 2 against the Yankees. Both against the rookie Cano. (Didn't have the balls to make calls against big name players.) The one at second base where he ruled that Cano didn't step on the bag...that is, as they say, a "neighborhood" call, where the player doesn't step on the bag to avoid getting spiked. A call that is seldom made. The other call was the first base one where Erstad had already missed the catch when Cano stepped on the bag and Cano, from everybody's perspective except West's, was running right on down the line where the first baseman let him run. By that I mean Erstad was blocking the first base side of the bag, so Cano ran down the left side. A very bad call made to show what a big man West was. Not to forget he was totally out of position and couldn't even see the angle at which Cano was running.

Having said all that, the Yankees didn't hit worth spit when it counted except for Jeter and Giambi. A-Rod is now Z-Rod (Zilch in my book) and GodZilla is FrogZilla because he came up small as a frog.

The talk is all about Pinella now, so we'll see real soon. They already say Mel is gone to Seattle.

You listen too much to Mike and the Mad Dog. <g>

West f'ed it up. His call at first was just wrong. The call at second was too damn close to call Cano out in a playoff game.

As for Torre (and Cashman for that matter), I think Reggie Jackson and others will tell King Nut that he (the Nut) does not want to see either one working for someone else against the Yankees.

I think having people say "George was stupid for letting 'x' go" is very powerful for The Loon.

Mel is gone. Good for Mel.

I expect Cashman to come back, at a huge price for George. Torre is under contract and will be there.

What I wonder about is Z-Rod. I have a bad feeling that he will become the object of The Loon's ridicule.
