Guerri, I see that SC has been declared a federal emergency area, and just
saw a news report suggesting that the state is expecting even more rain.
Are you and your house OK?

Thanks for thinking of us, Dodi!

Yes, there is a state of emergency, but it is more the southern coastal
areas that were hit hard. We live in what is called the "upstate", the
Greenville/Spartanburg area: sort of the northwest corner of the state.
Our house is on reasonably high ground and we're not near any large
bodies of water anyway.

We had a lot of rain, but not as much as south of us, so we are fine. No
power outtages in our immediate area. There may be some localized
flooding that I don't know about. There were downed trees and branches
in our local area. The report is there were 2" of rain at the
Greenville-Spartanburg airport.

What we have now is a "wind advisory" whatever that means, and we may
get a shower or two today. The wind may bring down some more trees and
branches. We live in a very rural area, but even so, our street is
evidently a critical route for fire and rescue services, which means
that we get a quick response when something blocks even part of the road.

My sister-in-law lives in Myrtle Beach. I will call her later today and
see how she's doing. I am a bit worried about her because there is a
golf course in back of her that is on higher ground, and the drainage is
not good.

We've had very dry conditions through the summer and early fall. But as
they say, be careful what you wish for. We wanted rain, but not day
after day after day! It is very nice to see the sun!

The scenes from the state that I've seen on TV have been ghastly, but I
guess most of those were from areas near the coast. Glad to hear your
situation isn't critical, Guerri!
