Johnny Barrs takes the next deal for getting 5 points for perhaps the
longest def ever submitted and for guessing - along with four others - that
MIRAMUR is an expression of surprise. Guerri, Tony, Chris, and Paul were
the real winners with 3 points each.

Over to you Johnny

15. The art of painting apparently random shapes which become a portrait
when a reflection of the painting is viewed in a curved surface. A very famous
example is the "Toasting Tray"; a tray currently in the West Highland
Museum at Fort William in Scotland which appears meaningless but when a
silver goblet is placed on the centre of tray reveals in the silver a
portrait of Charles Edward Stuart, the Young Pretender to the throne of
Great Britain, also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, he led the Jacobite
uprising in 1745. His loyal followers could toast his portrait but by
removing the goblet from the tray were safe from a charge of open treason.
[maybe derived through French from Latin _mire_ to reflect or _mirare_ to
surprise]

Tim, you must have done something different this time. No weird spacing at all.

I'm glad it worked out for you, Dodi. I spent more time than I intended on
getting it right, hence the incorrect subject line due to too much haste!
I'd better write down what I did for next time.

People

I have seen the item mentioned in my definition and while essentially
true to fact my def was totally made up... I see from later posts that
there is a word for it and in fact it is quite a common phenomenon. I
thought it was rare. It certainly blew me away when I saw it some 50
years ago

Another word coming shortly
