View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2621 - SKERRICK - Call for votes
Tim B
July 2nd, 2015, 06:13 AM
Vote for TWO definitions, as a public forum message (in reply to this one), before the deadline,
which is 0700 UTC on Saturday 4 July. That's 8 am BST, and probably 3 am on the East Coast and
midnight on the West Coast.
New players are welcome, even if you didn't enter a definition this round. Don't look in a dictionary.
1: a rabble rouser
2: a thin, flying cloud
3: a trickster; a mischief-maker.
4: to spoil or ruin (as plans, etc.)
5: runoff or debris from a glacial stream.
6: a piece of coloured glass used in mosaic
7: the least bit : smidgen, semblance, trace.
8: [S. Afr. Obs.] scoundrel, cheat [Afk. skurk]
9: a mechanism attached to a hinge to keep a door open
10: a knockdown of all pins in a frame of nine-pin bowling
11: [Scot.] an outlying rock in a reef or chain of rocks at sea.
12: waste metal attached to a cast coin, esp. a counterfeit coin.
13: to rummage or search around, especially for a possible profit.
14: [Scots] a weed named for its fanciful resemblance to a skeleton.
15: [Scot. Obs.] a wagon used for transporting goods between docks and warehouses.
16: a sharp-ended dinghy used as a service boat for a schooner, esp. in the cod fishing industry.
Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

As probably my last interaction with the game from the Land of the Free
(taking the hint from the date we fly back home tomorrow) I will vote
for #`12 as a specific example of #7

I'm pretty certain it's a noun, but that doesn't eliminate very many
possibilities, and the rest all seem equally reasonable. I'll take a stab at:
> 12: waste metal attached to a cast coin, esp. a counterfeit coin.
and
> 15: [Scot. Obs.] a wagon used for transporting goods between docks and
> warehouses.
