You came good. I knew you would. Here are 19 definitions for PUTTOCK,
one of which is from a dictionary. Vote for two in the next 36 hours,
i.e. on Monday before:
2300 my time
1400 UK time
1300 UTC
0900 US east
etc
1. Dwarf palmetto
2. a bird of prey
3. public drunkenness
4. a short-handled billhook.
5. a castrated water buffalo.
6. a shapeless piece; a fragment.
7. _Austral. slang._ A henpecked husband.
8. in Isaiah, a small animal of some sort.
9. a cured oak barrel used for aging Scotch whiskey.
10. a natural hill which is long and uncommonly narrow
11. the giant razor clam of Indo-Pacific seas, _Solen pallida_
12. a water hazard on a steeplechase course; to fall into such a hazard.
13. a cloth wrapping applied at a horse's joint between the cannon bone
and great pastern bone
14. _Nautical_ A piece of hardwood on either side of a bowsprit through
where forestays are reeved.
15. a long strip of cloth or leather wound spirally round the leg from
the ankle to the knee and worn by soldiers etc for protection
16. a nozzle, mouthpiece, or fixture through which the blast is
delivered to the interior of a blast furnace, or to the fire of a forge.
17. A barge or lighter, used on the Tyne for carrying coal from
Newcastle; also, a barge load of coal, twenty-one tons, four cwt. [Eng.]
18. _Naut._ any of the lines rigged from the ends of the crosstrees to
the mast below in order to brace them against the pull of the rigging above.
19. a basket of wood or wickerwork, open at the top and becoming
narrower and elongated towards the bottom, to be carried on the shoulder
[? < S. Ger. _Butte_ 'basket']
