View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2608 zeigarnik Defs up for voting!

—Keith Hale—
May 15th, 2015, 10:55 AM
Hello, all, and also sundry! With 15 actual player defs in, i'm going to
invoke the dealer-needs-sleep,-so-we-start-2 hours-early clause of da
rules. So here we go with the voting stage!
(Zero DQs, once again, bee-tee-dubbleyew!)

The deadline for voting is still going to be 01:00AM; Sunday, 17 May,
2015CE. All of that is Texas Time, Central Time Zone (UTC-06:00).

If, upon perusing the list you are sure that you can see the real
definition, PLEASE do not vote, - OR hit "Reply" at all.
Instead, please send me a private email to [ thoughtstorms (AT) gmail (DOT) com ]
telling me that you have to disqualify yourself.
Keeps it fair, and hopefully won't happen much.

New players are always welcome, you may vote even if you didn't submit a
definition.

I think 1 and 2 describe Keith's movie character, although I'm sure his
performance was the opposite of 3.

The -nik sounds either Yiddish or Russian, which means it's neither, so
I'll exclude 4, 14, and 16.

I will buy, however, that it's eponymous, so 15 gets my first vote. And
8 sounds like the day I'm having.

Back from Scotland, so around and with normal internet service for the next couple of weeks.

I'll try 14 and 16, please.

Best wishes,

I'm afraid I'm being swayed by the "-nik" suffix, but I'll fall for these:

1> a low-class actor, with the characteristic of ‘playing to the gallery’.
and
16> a connoisseur or enthusiast of vodka

The eponymous ones sound reasonable. I'd go for #8, but a psychological tendency should be something like "Zeigarnik tendency," not just "Zeigarnik," and #15 is too obscure even for Dixonary. And I can eliminate a few more on the grounds that they sound too much like a real term for the concept in the "definition."

I'll try eats and drinks: 10 and 16. #10 will help absorb #16, and the weekend is coming!

Apologies if this is a double posting, but my first vote hasn't appeared on the Group website, so I'm trying again.

I'm thinking it's more Russian than Yiddish, so I'll go for 11 and 16:

11>> a cigar smoker.

16>> a connoisseur or enthusiast of vodka.
