View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2589 CHAPPOW Results

My first mistake was failing to combine the two Indian sandal defs - I
thought they were sufficiently different to stand on their own. Dodi
remarked that she couldn't imagine two people coming up with fictional
Indian sandals by sheer chance. Well, it wasn't really sheer chance -
CHAPPOW obviously reminded two people of the similar word CHAPPAL, which
*is* an Indian sandal.

CHAPPOW is another Anglo-Indian word meaning a plundering expedition or
raid. Guerri was the only one to guess that.

Because of the flood of votes for the sandals, 5 and 9, we nearly had a
dead heat. However, Efrem decided not to vote for his own def, so Johnny
Barrs is our new dealer with 8 points, while Efrem can relax as the real
winner with 7. I nearly forgot to mention that Johnny B was DQ.

Over to you, Johnny.

I see no mistake. This round merely Shows the folly of assuming that similar defs must include the real one. The dealer can do no wrong and the real def could be combined if the omnipotent one chooses to.

I've seen the (unnecessary ) mea culpa and I know that J Barrs is the next dealer, and yet nowhere have I seen the usual full list of results.

No one else has remarked on this so perhaps I'm missing something obvious. Maybe it's another Google groups thing.

For Jim H. and anyone else who didn't get them. The funny thing is that they made it to Beijing, even though China blocks Google! (Easily survivable as regards searching, since Bing is available, but annoying when one wants to access Google Maps, Translate, etc., some of which don't have good alternatives.)

If you're reading it on the Google website, you may have to click on "Show
trimmed content" at the foot of my initial message to see the results.

Thanks Tim that would explain it. Sort of. Looking at Google groups via my iPhone there is nothing about trimmed content, at least not that I can see. However I have seen the whole message now thanks to forwarding by others.

Mike: Now that I'm back with a real computer and a viewable screen I see
the original message properly on the Groups site, including the link to
show circumscribed content. But no such invitation ever appeared on my
iphone screen. Perhaps Apple is unable to show that particular shade of
grey (out of a possible 50) or else is punishing me for only having iphone
Mark 5 not Mark 6 or 6+.
