I was using this address - note the domain after the @ - to send a
message to <person x @ somehere> and I copied the message to another of
my email addresses <keepme> at *the same domain as this one*

The message went to <person x> but google reported a total failure to
find the domain (this one!) for the message to <keepme> and ... yes,
reported the failure to this address (still in the same domain that it
couldn't find to deliver the message)

(Note: it wasn't that the <keepme> was incorrect it was that my domain
wasn't found)

Now I am a patient person so, raising my eyebrows, I thought "OK: I'll
just physically copy the message to the folder for the <keepme> address"
- only to find that gmail had in fact delivered it.

OK now I really am confused (I raised my eyebrows so far that they met
just above my collar) - if one of the wiser guru's can explain that one
..... please

Sure. You wanted to send the message to keepme so the gremlins who
decide who will go nuts next decided it was your turn. Then, when they
saw that you were going to work around the glitch they'd thrown at you,
and fearing that you would not go nuts after all, they decided to do
what you wanted all along, thus making you doubly crazy.

I thought these computers would not make mistakes and if they did make
them they would at least be consistent mistakes.

-- Guerri, who has her own inconsistent set of oddities which she is
ignoring because by and large things work anyway, but whose husband
thinks she should get a new machine as soon as possible before the
gremlins win.

Maybe they're hiring techies from the US Postal Service. A few days ago, I received an email from Amazon stating the a book I had ordered was returned to them by USPS as "Undeliverable" and could not be re-delivered. Big nonsense, as I receive deliveries from Amazon at my address very frequently; in fact, our 300-unit apartment building has a full-time manned package room to receive packages from all the delivery companies all day every day.

Of course, after I re-ordered that very day, the "undeliverable" book package arrived -- as disd another two days later..

That happened to me in Holland, too. I asked Amazon about it and it
apparently means the delivery service simply failed to deliver it, or even
to try. It could be caused by anything from a new hire unfamiliar with the
beat, to a truck breakdown, or a strike, or damage to the label.

Knowing a bit about how postal workers are -- especially the extras during the holiday season -- I strongly suspect that "undeliverable" was the excuse given when the package was found left over on the truck at the end of the day.

They used to pull the same thing when people were sent crates of citrus from Florida or California. In those cases, the items never left the local Post Office because the drivers didn't want to handle the weight, and some people would fall for the "undeliverable" and go and pick the item up at the PO.
