View Full Version : [Dixonary] Voting time: Round 2564, DAGOBA

At Dan Widdis's suggestion, this is being re-posted as a new message because the previous one looked like a reply to the progress report and therefore might not show up correctly for some players. The content (below the line of asterisks) is exactly the same as what went out a bit less than an hour ago. If you get both, feel free to discard one of them.

Fellow Dixonarists,

You and your fellow players have concocted 17 definitions intended to convince you that DAGOBA means something that it does not. At the same time, my good friend Random "Randy" House III has told me what DAGOBA means. The resulting 18 definitions are, in inverse order of character count (though perhaps not of visual length in a proportionately spaced font; definition 8 is two characters shorter than definition 7) and formatted for uniformity of capitalization and punctuation:

1. a kind of small, square, slope-sided and flat-topped stone structure found in the vicinity of the pyramids of Egypt; the mummified remains within are believed to be those of favored royal servants.
2. in the Eastern Orthodox Church one who voluntarily takes up the guise of insanity in order to conceal their perfection from the world, and thus avoid praise.
3. a type of fir tree with long, tapered needles and small knobby cones; found primarily in boreal forests of western Canada and the U.S. Northwest.
4. a small boat of South East Asia, propelled by an oarsman standing and facing in the direction of travel.
5. a council or meeting of indigenous peoples of eastern Africa to discuss an important matter.
6. a dome-shaped structure built over relics of Buddha or a Buddhist saint.
7. a leather binding used to hold together the tops of the poles of a tipi.
8. a porridge eaten in West Africa, usually made with beans and amaranth.
9. a tropical tree whose bark is used to make a bitter medicinal product.
10. [ostrich farming] a black and white wing feather from a cock ostrich.
11. a shelter for Buddhist hermits in Nepal, Bhutan and Thibet.
12. a desert wind, usually building to a sand-storm.
13. the highest grade applied to raw cocoa beans.
14. mist; smoke; damp [Prov. Eng.]
15. a fungus affecting dogs.
16. [Indian] a moneylender.
17. an illegal statute.
18. a pagoda.

Please select two you like (perhaps because you think they're most likely to be correct, but that's up to you) and announce your votes by Reply to this message. The deadline for voting is just under 36 hours from now: 9 am (0900 hours) U.S. Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday, Dec. 3. According to a time conversion Web site, that is also:

8 am, same date, U.S. Central Daylight Time
6 am, same date, U.S. Pacific Daylight Time
2 pm, same date, British Standard Time (and UTC)
3 pm, same date, Continental Europe Time
1 am, Thursday, Dec. 3, Australian Eastern Daylight Time

and so on if anyone is anywhere else. I don't take responsibility for the conversions. Please confirm yours if you're not sure.

New players are welcome, even if you didn't submit a definition for this word. Full rules can be found at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules .

Happy voting,

Efrem
