View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2547: FINDIBLE - vote, please!

Hugo Kornelis
October 3rd, 2014, 01:46 AM
Hi all!

Of the 19 definitions below, 1 is from an actual dictionary, but all
others are from your wonderful collective imaginations. But which is
which? That is for me to know, for you to guess - and you even get to
guess twice! ;)

Please vote by public reply to dixonary (AT) googlegroups (DOT) com on the two
definitions you think are most worthy of your support (or most likely to
be right).

I had to set the voting deadline quite long. I will be at a conference
all day tomorrow, so I won't be back home before the evening. Hence I
have set the deadline for a little over 33 hours after posting this
message: October 4, 2014; at 18:00 CEST. Which equates to 16:00/4:00PM
UTC/GMT, noon EST, and 9:00am PST (if I am not mistaken).
Please bear with me if I cannot publish the results directly after the
deadline.

Cheers,
Hugo

1 (although many love stories are, indeed, embroidered) and 7 for the
"clavice"

I'll try 12 and 16, though with very little confidence that I'm right:

12. a device for threading needles.

16. thin; threadlike.

I'll try 12 and 18. They seem implausible, but ever so slightly less so than the others.

Interesting defs. Lots of threads, strings, and needles (1,4,8,9,12,16)
which could apply to a spindle, as well as bending and folding (11) and
mutilating (15). But we're told not to bend, fold, spindle, or mutilate
so I'll avoid those.

I think it's an adjective so I'll reject the nouns (2,3,5,6,7,17)

Of the remaining five, 13 is too obvious to possibly be true, but I
commend the author on their chutzpah. Coin-flipping the remainder, I'll
prop up a plate with 14 and 19.
