View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2527: aa - Announcement

Christopher Carson
July 18th, 2014, 07:15 PM
Well, it seems as though it's been a while. Fortunately the timing isn't
awful and I don't have to deal from the cellular black hole that is Lower
Manhattan.

Barring a rash of DQs, the word for round 2527 is

*
***
*****
*******
*********
*********** A A
*********
*******
*****
***
*

Capitalization is not significant.

Please submit your fake definitions for this word, by _email_, on or
before the deadline, which is 1:00 PM EDT on Sunday, July 20, 2014, or
10:00 AM PDT .

If you will be a DQ, please advise soonest so that your dealah can go back
to the archives and dust off another woid.

I play that word all the time in Words With Friends but have no idea
what it means!

Chris, clarification, please:

Your message below has the letter "A", followed by a space, followed by
another letter "A".
In your subject line above, there's no space.

Does your word include a space?

There is no space. I don't know why Cory's template put one in and I failed to notice it.

As I feared 'aa', the rough lava, has been DQed out. As soon as I get home (I'm on the 10th tee) I'll post a new word that hopefully survived.

I don't think there's a hard and fast rule. I tend to choose a new word
if I get 2 DQs. Others may have a higher tolerance for them.

Guerri is right, there is no hard and fast rule. Personally, I use 3 as a decision point. But even that can vary based on the round’s circumstances.

Daniel Widdis

For me, it's more of a "percentage of players" threshold, in which I
predict based on the first few responses how many I might get later. (I
suspect I'm not alone in this, and many dealers suggest in their woid
announcements that if you're going to DQ, you do so promptly for
precisely this reason.)

The "Real Rules" provide a wide range: /Most dealers will proceed with a
word if there are only one or two DQs, and few will proceed if there are
five or more (755)./

If the first two people to respond (or even two of the first four or
five) I'll consider that DQ "rate" too high and start over, especially
if one of them tells me it's a common word. Usually this is in the
first few hours, the switch doesn't delay the round very much, and few
submitters might be affected by a change in word compared to their
definition. However, if I've received no DQ's for the first 24 hours,
I'd probably proceed with the word even if I get 2 or 3 DQs from the
final submitters. (You may get additional DQ's after posting
definitions, but obviously this is too late to withdraw a word.)

Also, 2 DQs from players not named Barrs tend to carry more weight than
Barrs plus one. ;)
