View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2521, PARISOLOGY: Time to vote

Dodi Schultz
June 26th, 2014, 09:38 AM
We have a total of 20 possible definitions for PARISOLOGY, only one of
which can be found in a dictionary; below, the long and short of it,
roughly in that order. Your challenge is to find that one right def, and
you have two votes/chances to do so. Do so before the deadline, by direct
reply to this message.

You may vote even if you didn't submit a def; there's still a chance to
earn points for picking the real definition.

Exception: If you now recognize the actual definition among this lot, you
may not vote. Do NOT hit "Reply". Instead, notify me privately, by e-mail.

Deadline:
Friday, 27 June: 11 p.m. EDT, 10 p.m. CDT, 9 p.m. MDT, 8 p.m. PDT
Saturday, 28 June: 4 a.m. BST, 5 a.m. CEST, 1 p.m. AEST

Eliminating everything that starts with "the study of" or "the scientific study of" narrows the field. Of the remaining few, I'll try 1 and 2.

(That said, even if this particular word doesn't mean "the study of classification of umbrellas," that concept deserves one. Shall we start with its size, its color, the shape of the handle, the material of the cover, the type of mechanism, or ...? One could almost go as far as Melville did with classifying whales in Chapter 32 of Moby-Dick.)

Four players--Tony Abell, Johnny Barrs (surprise!), Dave Cunningham, and our
newest member, Rose Knoblauch--zeroed in on the real definition of
PARISOLOGY, #11.

In addition to those two points, Johnny racked up another five for his pun,
#20, and he's our next dealer. Chris Carson (#10) and Steve Graham (#6) tie
for "real winner", with five natural points each; Dave (#2) is the
runner-up, with an unnatural five.

Full details below. Over to you, Johnny. Enjoy!
