View Full Version : [Dixonary] Vote for ADRET
EnDash via Dixonary
June 6th, 2014, 03:44 PM
I'm Back. Diagnosis: some pesky bug that shows up and will probably go away
before too long.
So here are 18 clever definitions for ADRET, only one of which comes from
a dictionary. Please select two and send your choices to the group.
Because of the delay I caused, I will extend the deadline for votes to
Sunday at 9:00 AM EDT or the equivalent in your time zone.
Good luck to all., and thanks for your patience. -- Dick Weltz

Dick, delighted to hear that it's "just" a pesky bug and not anything dire.
Feel better soon!

Looks like #4 might have been a two-fer but only one of the defs got
picked. I wonder what the other one was.
Meanwhile, I'll continue with the unanimous votes for 13 and 18.

I don't recognise any of them as my own. Was I too late or did it not
arrive?
Oh well, I wouldn't have voted for it anyway. Instead I'll try a couple of
non-nouns: 13 and 18

Mine went astray as well. I'm quite sure I sent it well before the deadline. I sent Dick an e-mail asking what happened, but haven't heard back yet. It's too soon after I sent the e-mail for that to be a concern.
Be that as it may, I'll vote for 7 (the small gate or sluice) and 14 (the young duck).

That was easier than reading all the definitions. :-)

Hmm, looks like I'm not a DQ after all.
13 looks genuine, because (if you're making it up) it takes nerve to give a word two virtually opposed senses. 4 looks likely, but I don't believe [Chiefly Scottish]. I might have believed 5, but for the Barrsesque apparatus criticus. The only other one I believe is 9.
So, 9 and 13.

I'll try the Alpine slope and the popular preposition:

from the sun during the day - used chiefly of the Alps
and
