View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2510: Results: GRAWLIX

—Keith Hale—
May 20th, 2014, 03:20 AM
Here are the results! [That didn't get sent like i thought they did
before i went back to bed, sorry!]

The next dealer with 7 asterisked points (2 of them for getting it
right, as is his wont) is Johnny Barrs.

In coveted 2nd place, tha Real Winnah is Daniel Widdis wid his 6*.

He ties wid my D6 for the scribbly horizontal spirals and later random
punctuation and other characters that conveniently replace foul
language. Though it is certainly a coined word, it has been taken up
by many other dictionaries and used rather a lot.

Here is a "word tasting" blog i enjoy tackling this round's word:

My tablet would NOT let me cut or paste, so doing away with the unused
number 8 wasn't happening.

I find it interesting that, in an adult career spent mostly in the
typesetting business, service as president of the industry's largest trade
association (mostly US and Canadian members), and an editor of the association's
glossary of typographic terms, I don't recall ever hearing that word.

In fact, IIRC, the question arose from time to time about what those things
were called, and I don't remember anyone ever being able to give an
answer.

Live and learn!

I voted for it only because I thought, "there needs to be a word for
that".
