Oh man... this really is going to boil down to those last three games. My nerves ain't gonna survive. And at least two of those last three games are while I'm due to be away visiting a real live no-holds-barred Yankees hater.

Judy,

Not only did Boston win tonight (15-2), but Schilling pitched good and both Manny and Pappy hit 2 home runs off of our favorite Pinata, McClung.

The good news is we won too. Small didn't pitch particularly well, giving up 4 runs in 5 innings, but only 2 were earned. The middle relievers, however, stunk.

Looks more and more like Leiter is going to be the lefthanded specialist...particularly after Embry stunk the joint up tonight. He was there to get lefthanders out and the first two guys he faced were lefties and they both got hits. <SIGH>

Embry is a problem, and I don't trust him at all. Let Leiter be the specialist. I'm sure Joe's trust is shaken.

Mike,

I saw a picture of Mel and Leiter in the bullpen talking while Embree was letting 2 lefthand batters in a row get hits....and the frustrating thing was he was ahead of the count on both and had made them miss badly on his curveball. Then he seems to lose focus and gives up hits.

Afterward, Leiter said he was able to warm up fast enough to do relief work. A big plus if true.

I think we will need that. Embry is not getting it done.

Mike,

Meantime....FIRST PLACE!!! And Matt hero. With all the role players becoming heros for a game, this is beginning to remind me of that year Bucky Dent did in Beantown. And did you hear? Sheff says he is getting better.

And Bubba in center and Lawton in right (which gives Bernie the rest he needs.)

All's I can say is cliched: "Ya Gotta Believe!"
