Well, this round was destined for me to pick words that you all knew.
After two failed attempts with too many DQ's, I was quite hopeful that
QUONK would stump the lot of you. Alas, I was mistaken, as the
onomatopoeic word for a sound picked up on a live microphone attracted
no fewer than 8 of your votes.

Several of those votes poured in with the last voters, either a crowd
following the vox pop or, in Chuck Emery's case, possibly attempting a
tactical vote to avoid the deal. If that was the case, it backfired,
and Chuck has the honor of dealing Round 2487 with 7 points, including 5
votes for his subatomic particle. Paul Keating enjoys real winner
honors with six votes for his tiddlywinks foul.

All yours, Chuck!

1. A bad or disreputable writer.
Vote from: Shefler
Submitted by: Abell, who scores natural 1.
2. In the game of Tiddlywinks, a foul.
Votes from: Carson, Cunningham, Emery, Hart, Lodge and Schultz
Submitted by: Keating, who scores natural 6.
3. To fail, usually of something mechanical.
No votes
Submitted by: Bourne.

7. An incompetent or inexperienced sailor, especially a naval cadet.
Votes from: Abell and Weltz
Submitted by: Hart, who scores 2 + 2, total 4.
8. To pass a quiz question. [jokey reference to having no knowledge]
No votes
Submitted by: Barrs, who scores 0 + 2, total 2.

text-based game of the name.

Ouch! A badly timed honor as this weekend will be a major project's
go-live at work. Will have a word within next 5 hours, if all goes well.

Chuck,

You posted this message as a "reply" to my final results message. Thus
on the Google Groups site (and other email applications that thread
messages) it does not have your new subject line, as it's attached to
the prior one.

Recommend you repost the word as a brand new message, just in case
people miss it.
