View Full Version : [Dixonary] OT: Junk (Spam) in Thunderbird

Every now and then I get a rash of Spam from "Stock Profitz". What's
annoying is that although Thunderbird identifies it as junk, it does not
move it automatically to the Junk folder.

I looked at my settings and I have this:

Adaptive junk mail is enabled.

Trust junk mail headers set by ... is not checked

Move new junk messages to ... is checked and underneath that "other" is
selected, and "Junk on local folders" is chosen

That last item is a bit confusing because the main options are

"Junk" folder on with a drop-down list

Other, with a drop-down list.

I don't know why I chose the "other" option. It seems to me that
choosing the "junk folder" and then choosing "local folders" from the
drop down list there would be the same as choosing "other" and then
"junk on local folders" would be the same. But then maybe there is some
subtle difference.

If any other Tbird user here does have junk moved automatically to a
junk folder, can you tell me how you have this set up?

Another weird thing is that at least some of these particular junk
messages have a link to unsubscribe. Having not subscribed, or done
anything that might be construed as subscribing, such as contacting
these people to order something, I am reluctant to unsubscribe.

Writing from South Carolina during the "blizzard". Yes, it's been
snowing most of the day, but the grass is still not completely covered
in places, but it has also been windy and it's blowing around. We are
now looking forward to freezing rain/sleet/ etc. The governor has
declared a state of emergency, schools are closed, and residents are
asked to avoid any non-emergency travel.

I think I recall reports that you folks up north are going to be
hammered as well, and it will be much worse, so my sympathies to you. Of
course everything is relative, and in the 7 years we've lived here, this
is the worst it's been. We have had more snow, but this is the first
threat of freezing rain, etc. I can hardly wait.

And in the many decades I've lived in NY, this is the worst it's been. Not
for depth of snow (I'm sure there have been some exceeding what we've had
this season) but for repeated storms and persistent subfreezing
temperatures. The snow predicted here for tonight/tomorrow will fall atop
the better part of a foot still remaining (and solidly frozen) from the
next-to-last dose of the stuff. Yuk.
