The book, "A Glossary of Obscure Words and Phrases in the Writings of
Shakspeare and His Contemporaries Traced Etymologically to the Ancient
Language of the British People as Spoken Before the Irruption of the Danes
and Saxons" cites mum-budget as the catch word suggested by Slender in the
"Merry Wives of Windsor," when the plot is laid against Falstaff: "I come
to her in white and cry, 'mum;' she cries 'budget;' and by that we know one
another." (Act V, Scene II.) We are familiar with the etymology of mum
(silence) in this context but not so much budget, which likely comes from
the Keltic buige, "softly, warily."

I found multiple MUMBUDGET definitions to choose from, some which bore
resemblance to other player submissions this round. One source second-hand
cites the Oxford English Dictionary, defining it as a verb: "To fuss; to
bustle. Chiefly in to come mumbudgeting." However, since I do not have
access to the OED to confirm this and the majority of other sources cited
some form of silence, I selected the interjection defined in Chambers 1861
for the purposes of this deal. I had hoped the multiple "mum"-based
definitions would hide the true one amongst them, but ended up with a D4
nonetheless. At least I had no DQs!

The winner of round 2472, and dealer for round 2473, is Keith Hale, whose
definition "a bag or sachet of dried flowers." earned a natural 6 .

There were 2 players sharing "real winner" status with 5 points each: Tony
Abell and Glen Boswell.
