Daniel Widdis
January 5th, 2014, 09:27 PM
So far, 9 definitions have been received, from the following players:
Barrs, Carson, Emery, Hale, Hart, Madnick, Shefler, Stevens and Weltz.

The word, in case you missed the initial posting, is MUMBUDGET. You still
have 19 hours to submit your fake definitions for this word, (which you
should of course send me by _email_). The deadline for definitions is
Monday, January 06, 2014 9:00 PM EST.

According to my clock, which is on U.S. EST, 9 pm EST would give us 22 1/2 hours. Did I miss something?

Hmm. Nope.

Apparently the 19 hours is based on the timezone I put into Coryphaeus, my
usual PST. However, I¹m traveling and my computer clock is currently on
EST. And I didn¹t notice the error.

So yes, you still have about 22 hours from right now.

(I could play semantic games and claim that any time > 19 hours would still
make the sentence validÅ*)

Ample evidence supports the notion that definitions submitted in a hurry get more points. :)

Then how come I won the round before last with one of those
top-of-the-head, last-minute defs?

I suppose there's a difference in submitting in a hurry when you first see the word, or submitting a hurry because you procrastinate until the last minute.

I thought the constant reminders were an effort to get people to send in
their defs early.

They are an effort to ensure no lost votes. In a recent deal, it saved a
potential lost def sent to a different email address.

19 is the atomic number of potassium, a radioactive component of bananas
(and possibly the reason minions prefer it as a food). It is also the
number of definitions presented for MUMBUDGET. Please vote for two, by
public reply to this message, before deadline, which is 9:00 AM EST on
Wednesday, January 08, 2014, or 6:00 AM PST, or 14:00 UTC. That's about 34
hours from now.

I love the idea of 12, and the thought of a word for 17, but this time I have to go for 8 and 16,
please.

Best wishes,
