View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2471: The moment of choice

Dodi Schultz
January 3rd, 2014, 07:29 PM
The word is VAPULATION. Below, the long and short of it, in that order: a
score of claimed definitions, among them just one that actually appears in
a dictionary. Choose the two you think most likely to be that one; register
your votes by direct reply to this message. (Exception: If you now
recognize the real definition, you may not vote; instead, please e-mail the
dealer to disqualify yourself.)

The deadline for casting your votes:
Sunday, 5 January, 9 a.m. EST (6 a.m. PST, 7 a.m. MST, 8 a.m. CST)
In England, 2 p.m.
In the Netherlands, 3 p.m.
In southeastern Oz, Monday, 6 January, 1 a.m.

Let's see:

13. false, insincere, or excessive praise.

14. (Obs.) the act of beating or whipping.

....since they add up to 27 (which means nothing to me...but it sounds good!).

Hi Dodi,

What an impressive list! I like 3, but I think it's a bit too obvious.
So unless you double-bluffed us, I'm going to assume it's wrong.
And I laughed out lot when I read #4, preparing myself to write that
there should be a word for that - until I realized there already is one:
"short".

Oh, you also wanted my votes? 2 and 9 - the bump and the phonetic change.

Cheers,
Hugo

As for me, it would have been a D0 except for Judy, who cast the round's
first vote, the only vote for the real def, #14. Details below.
