Christopher Carson
November 25th, 2013, 06:01 PM
Ouch! Dixon's Corollary to Murphy's Law holds but I'm going to try and
slip a quick work in this evening. I'm going to have to stretch the
deadlines to accommodate work and the holiday so please bear with me.

Barring a rash of DQs, the word for round 2461 is

*
***
*****
*******
*********
*********** K A R O O
*********
*******
*****
***
*

Capitalization is not significant.

Please submit your fake definitions for this word, by _email_, on or
before the deadline, which is 7:00 PM EST on Thursday, November 28, 2013,
or
4:00 PM PST .

If you will be a DQ, please advise soonest so that your dealah can go back
to the archives and dust off another woid.

I have KAVYA (A style of Classical Sanskrit poetry characterized by ornate and artificial language) for that deal. Are they synonyms?

While I'm at it, here's my NAD: "KAROO: A murical instrument."

I also had kavya for that round. If I'm wrong, I'll have to repost tomorrow after work. My laptop won't run Cory and doesn't have the history files.

Looking at the alpha and numerical word lists, they're both listed: KAROO with a star (meaning "dealt but not played") and KAVYA without. The most likely reason for not being played is that there were too many DQs, but my records don't say.

Seems to me that if it doesn't get too many DQs this time, which might mean that those who DQ'd themselves back in May aren't playing at the moment, it should be OK since it was never played.

Efrem, KAROO was dealt but not played (apparently too many DQs); doesn't
the list you checked have an asterisk next to the word? He switched to KAVYA.

We don't repeat; it's just understood. I think the feeling is that while
some may have known a word (and thus it was withdrawn) others may have
looked it up and might well recognize the meaning when it reappears. At any
rate, our practice has been never to repeat a word previously dealt,
whether or not it was originally withdrawn.

I was obviously in too big a hurry and looked at an incomplete list. Using a previously DQed word is impossible. My bad so I'll post a new word this evening. Unfortunately I have a project meeting today up in Harlem and will only have intermittent phone access to the internet.
