View Full Version : [Dixonary] OT: accessing messages in Google Groups

Judy Madnick

I kinda' thought that someone voted for my definition, so I went to Google Groups to check. Stupid question: How do I access the messages? I couldn't find a link to do so! At the bottom of my display I can see "30 of 4316 topics," but I'm unable to scroll down to see the topics and messages.

What am I doing wrong? :-(

That's the screen I'm reaching, but I am unable to access messages. As I mentioned, at the very bottom of my display I see "30 of 4317 topics," but I'm not finding a way to access the topics and/or messages. This has never happened before, as I have occasionally gone to the group website to see older messages.

I see that "30 of 4317" line at the top of the list.

Then there's a list of threads, the top one of which is this one that you
started.

The fifth one listed is "Round 2440 vote for Quhene reformatted". Click on
that to open the thread, and you'll see Mike's list of defs followed by the
replies to it.

At least that's what /I/ see.

It's like a forum, except it appears very different from the usual ones
formatted by vBulletin et al.

I do not see anything below the "30 of 4317 topics," and there appears to be no way to scroll down. As I said, I never had this problem before.

If I do a search (e.g., for 2440), I will find a list of appropriate messages. But I don't recall having to do a search before -- I could just scroll down a list of messages.

Oh, well. I hope I never have to look for a message when I don't have a search term.

Judy,

what happens if you click on the > next to the "50 of xxxx" to see the
next 50 ? (and if you see them then < to go back

I am wondering if somehow you (and you alone) have a funny first message
that means that you don't see anything

What ">"? I don't see that at all. I do receive my Google group messages via gmail, and I am able to access the member list...just not the messages on the group site.

Okay, this is interesting: There's a "star" next to the "xx of yyyy" messages line. When I made a new folder and called it "Messages," that folder ended up under my Favorites. When I clicked on that folder, voila! There were all the messages! The question is...why?

John, I adjusted my email accordingly so that all my messages go to one folder. But this is "Groups." And now I'm not seeing any messages at all. This just isn't worth the time. Google has sure messed things up. And I haven't found an instructions. Does anyone know whether any instructions exist?

My "cogwheel" icon says "Settings," and there's no mention of "primary." But my messages are appearing now, so I'll leave well enough alone.
