Fun!
I went to look up the woid (after voting, of course) and didn't find it
but I did find a "phenakistoscope" which is an early animation device (one
of those spinning wheels which produces the effect of movement). I didn't
read far enough to see the etymology pointed to #20, and just assumed that
all those of us voting for #3 got it right with retinal impressions. Go
figure!
It seems Millie has been dealing a lot lately!
