Hi Millie,

* runs off to google *

* checks definition of FREEMARTIN *

* fails to understand *

So - what exactly is the connection between a sterile female calf and SF
buffs?

Cheers,
Hugo

Hahaha sorry Hugo
A good question ... when you put it like that.

Well, according to our resident guru Mr Barrs, freemartins appear in
"Brave New World from Aldous Huxley and something from Robert Heinlein too"

Clearly my memory has failed me on that!
(although I must admit, my SF days are many moons ago <g>)

Best wishes
Millie

Ah, thanks.

(I have read Brave New World. In English. But that was back in
highschool - a long, long, long time ago.
And I've also read most, if not all of Heinlein's work, but most of it
in the Dutch translation).

Cheers,
Hugo

I've read those things, too—but not recently, and "freemartin" rang no
bells for me either.

Believe it or not (since I so rarely "know" a word), I did recognize "freemartin." <G>

I actually use the word a lot - joking around. Someone will say
"Ladies, Gentlemen..." and pause too long and i'll either chip in
"Hermaphrodites" (inspired by Monty Python's Life of Brian of Nazareth
- all time top favourite motion picture) - or "Freemartins", inspired
by Brave New World. On rare occasions it's
"Super-Intelligent-Shades-of-the-Colour-Blue" - from Douglas Adams'
"Hitchhiker's Guide" Series. I'm strange, and my SF days are many
moons present.
