View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2421 MILVER Results

Two players, Millie Morgan and Tim Bourne, ended up with 5 points. Two of
Millie's came from guessing the correct def (No 18, the person with a
shared interest, esp. that of words and wordplay); she was the only one to
do so. As you all will have seen, Tim B is not available to deal, so the
honour (?) of the next deal falls to Millie Morgan. Five other players
were the real winners with 3 points apiece.

The OED tells me that MILVER was coined by Logan Pearsall Smith (with whom
you are probably more familiar than I am) in 1936. I did briefly consider
combining Tony Abell's def ("a nonce word intended to rhyme with silver"),
which was not very far from the mark, with the real one, but decided not
to, as LP Smith gave the word a meaning of its own.

Take it away, Millie.
