I was hoping there'd be a last minute vote to tip the scales ... but it
didn't happen.
I did get a last minute vote, but Matthew's votes made it even more even
<g>

So ... we have a four-way tie here, with Chris Carson, Dave Cunningham, Tim
Bourne, and Matthew Grieco each on 3 natural points.
But as well as that, Chris and Dave are tied on 6 points each in the 4-Round
rolling scores.
Talk about morbid humour!
So ... help!! I've forgotten what we do in a case like this.
And while I slumber, perhaps the Wise Ones will announce the dealer of Round
2418?
Please.

The true definition was No.11, well chosen by Steve Graham and Keith Hale
Best wishes
Millie

In my copy of the rules (rev. 321), Rule 10(c) provides the second tie-breaker: the player with the higher cumulative score since the dawn of time ranks higher. On that basis, Dave's 5347 beats Chris's 4532 and he deals next.

Dave: please don't shoot the messenger.

Chris: please send the usual bribe payment to my agent.

Hi Millie,

I don't have a copy of Da Rulez handy, but my memory insist that the
5-Round rolling scores should be applied even before the 4-Round rolling
scores. In the 5-Round rolling scores, Chris Carson is way ahead of all
the competition.
(Sorry, Chris)

Cheers,
Hugo

Dave is the next dealer by virtue of his total score.

Grumble, grumble - getting the deal on only 3 points??? There oughtta be a
law. No matter how you permute the rolling scores, I think I end up with a
majority so a word will be forthcoming.

Hi Chris,

That's what I thought, but Efrem and Mike think differently. You might
want to hang on to that word a bit longer until a final verdict has been
called...

Cheers,
Hugo

Drat - I should have waited for the new rolling scores. Oh well, Dave if
you want to take over feel free. Otherwise I'll continue with the deal and
you'll owe me one.

Dave is the next dealer by virtue of his total score.

As I read the explanation in the rules (page 9, italicized text near the bottom) 5-round rolling scores include the round just completed. Therefore, for purposes of resolving a tie, their order is identical to that of the 4-round rolling scores as of the end of the previous round.

Using 5-round rolling scores as of the end of the previous round would be using 6-round rolling scores. I don't see any provision in the rules for that.

With that reading, we go next to total scores to break the tie. On that basis the dealer should, in theory, be Dave C. That said, if Chris and Dave are OK with Chris dealing, who am I to object? I just wish he had come up with an easier word than "acequia" to concoct a definition for ...

Since I haven’t heard from Dave and since I’ve already received some defs, I guess it will be me. I need to dig out Paul’s Real Rules. I seem to recall that the point that the 5 round rolling scores including the current round would have the same order as the 4 round scores came up and there was a discussion and resolution at that time. I just don’t recall the details. Oh well. Fortunately, this isn’t a bad time for me to deal.

Chris,

You are correct about the rules. There was discussion and some were in favor of changing the rules, but nothing came of it.
