View Full Version : [Dixonary] Whatever happened to Dick Weltz?

EnDash@aol.com

I suspect that some of you may be wondering what happened to me when I so
suddenly dropped out of cyberspace on March 22 last, so here’s the story..
In the small hours of the morning, I was stricken by a not insignificant
cardiac event which resulted in ambulance transport to Lenox Hill Hospital
(one of the two closest to my home), where is was determined that I needed
a cardiac bypass operation.
It was also discovered that a had pneumonia, which took them about a week
to clear up before doing the heart surgery. I then underwent a quadruple
bypass, followed a few days later by implantation of a defibrillator. About a
week after that, I had abdominal surgery to clear a bowel obstruction,
which they said was congenital although I’d never had any previous issues.
The surgeries and the bed-bound condition over the weeks I was at Lenox
Hill left my muscles severely weakened, and I couldn’t do a hell of a lot
more than feed myself. Eventually, I was discharged into the care of a rehab
facility for physical and occupational therapy. That has restored a great
deal of my functionality and mobility – but far from where they were before
this whole nightmare started.
At neither the hospital nor the rehab facility was it possible to get in
touch with all you folks and let you know what had happened and why I so
suddenly dropped out of electronic sight.
This afternoon I was discharged and sent home, where it will take fair
amount of time and further in-home therapy to get me to a full recovery.
But at least I have access to my computer – on which I spent most of the
afternoon straightening out, as it apparently became corrupted in several ay
during the time it remained on while I was away.
Anyway, it is great to be home; and I am feeling quite good except fro the
frustration of not being able yet to do my normal activities. My
participation online will, therefore be more limited than usual but I trust it will
increase back to normal levels as I regain more of my strength.
I missed all you folks and regret that it was impossible to let you know
that had happened.

Welcome back, Dick!

For what it's worth, my father had a quadruple bypass in a day when medical science wasn't as advanced as it is now. (To give you an idea of when, the first thing I remember him saying after it was that he had gone Henry Kissinger one better. H.K. only had a triple bypass.) It lasted him fifteen years, until something totally unrelated got him. I'm sure yours will be at least that good, probably a lot better.

I doubt you'll have any lack of volunteers for this, but if you should be unlucky enough to end up as the dealer before you're ready to deal with it, I'll take it. You can take mine at some later date, though my recent scores suggest that may not happen for quite a while.

Best wishes for a speedy and total recovery,

Efrem

I am sorry to hear that you had to suffer through all this. I'm happy
you're on the mend and wish you the best. It will be tedious, I am sure,
but having gone through far more minor physical therapy myself, just
keep at it.

Well, that makes 3 of us (at least) in the Quadruple Bypass club, here!
Henry Kissinger was a wuss!! [C;

Mine was far less eventful than yours, and recovery was difficult, but not
without many blessings! I hope your recovery continues smoothly (or gets
that way)!
