View Full Version : [Dixonary] Round 2406:GOPAK - time to vote

Tim B
May 14th, 2013, 12:32 PM
Here, somewhat delayed, is a grand set of mostly fake definitions of GOPAK. Please vote for TWO
definitions, as a public forum message (in reply to this one), before the deadline, which is 8 am
BST on Thursday 16th May. That's 0700 GMT, probably 3 am in New York and midnight Wednesday/Thursday
on the West Coast.

New players are welcome, even if you didn't enter a definition this round. Don't look in a
dictionary until after you've voted.

1: an orderly.

2: a hill porter.

3: a mountain goat.

4: a large mosquito.

5: an Indonesian jitney bus.

6: a water purification system.

7: the pelt of the arctic hare (Inuit).

8: [Pol.] the art of dyeing Easter eggs.

9: a high-leaping Ukrainian folk dance for men.

10: a peak, ridge, or hill of bedrock that protrudes from a glacier's surface.

11: a rod with a thin or spliced end used to form the base or frame of baskets.

12: a Buddhist book of five basic prayers for love, health, money, happiness and large family.

13: an anti-fungal preservative, now banned, used in the 1990's in cosmetics and animal balms.

14: an Eastern European coin valued at a tenth of a Russian ruble; worth about a third of a cent.

15: a travelling bag; any container or bundle intended for carrying in travel; hand-luggage. [orig.
pidgin]

16: an untreated felted fleece, originally of alpine goats now more generally of any
semi-domesticated animal.

17: An online multi-player strategy game with rules and a theme that are loosely based on the
classic game Go (q.v.).

18: [Malay] a pudding made by roasting the tuber of the taro plant then mashing and mixing it with
water before boiling.

19: _Tillandsia usneoides_, or Spanish moss, used as upholstery in some early Ford automobiles
until customers complained about chiggers.

20: a mixture of spices (_masala_) used to flavor Biryani dishes in the Kolkota (Calcutta) region,
consisting primarily of nutmeg, cinnamon, mace, cloves and cardamom.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

Hi Tim,

I like definition 8. And then I read #9 and had this vision of combining
the two. And I liked that vision so much that, even though I did read
the rest of the list, I didn't even seriously consider them anymore. :)

I don't recognise anything here, so I'm voting with a clear
conscience. If I hit the true def, it's just random chance!

I'll go for 1 and 20:

>
> 20: a mixture of spices (_masala_) used to flavor Biryani dishes in the Kolkota (Calcutta) region,
> consisting primarily of nutmeg, cinnamon, mace, cloves and cardamom.

I'll "go" for 5. I'll also take 19.

5: an Indonesian jitney bus.

19: _Tillandsia usneoides_, or Spanish moss, used as upholstery in some

3 and 14 for me.

Personally, I can't wait to find out what the political action committee
(PAC) of the Republicans (GOP) really means.

#9 - the high-leaping Ukranian dance (because I could never resist a
high-leaping Ukranian)

#13 - the anti-fungal preservative (because they never should have banned
it)
