View Full Version : OT: No email from Google Groups

I am posting this in the Tapcis forum, since that is now the only way I can access the Dixonary group. Google has ceased sending email to my email domain (isanybodyhome.com), due to the fact that its registration has expired. Although I use the email address, I do not own the domain, and I am trying to get the owner to renew it on my behalf.

Since playing from the web is not satisfactory for me and since I know from experience that the Dixonary group moderators have no ability to fix things for me (nor, most likely, any idea of what I'm talking about), expect me to be absent until such time as the domain is renewed and Google resumes sending email to my subscribed email address.

I advise you all to not hold your breaths.

As luck would have it, I was able to renew the domain, and email seems to be
back now already. At least for the moment.

It was to guard against potential situations like yours that some years ago
I signed up for a gmail account. Even if you don't use it as your primary
address (though I do now) it's useful as a backup since you don't have to
pay to maintain an account or renew a domain name.

OTOH living without email for a few days has an upside. You have all those
hours in the day for other things, such as marvelling at the way the world
still turns, the sun still rises...

I have many email accounts, including a gmail account. I don't use the gmail
account for regular mail, and it would be particularly awkward to use it for
Dixonary, in part because of its linkage to my Android smartphone.

The whole reason for using the isanybodyhome.com account was that I
have complete control over the SMTP server on that domain, assuring that
Dixonary messages won't be spam filtered, as has been a problem with every
other third party I have tried to use for Dixonary.

That's weird. In the many years that I've been playing Dixonary, I've had
three different ISPs: CompuServe back in the old days, Netscape for a
little while after CServe dropped its service, and Verizon for the past few
years. None of them has ever blocked, attempted to block, or even
questioned Dixonary messages.

I have an amusing problemette from this gmail account - as a moderator here
I receive the notices from the google-group for pending messages that need
allowing (or more likely binning) and etc... gmail has decided to consider
them spam -- not that it doesn't deliver them to me; it does; but it warns
me that they are probably spam and that I shouldn't open them -- noticeably
it doesn't put them in my spam folder either!

This seems like a classic example of the right hand not knowing what the
left hand is doing!

umm!

I still have my CServe address ... though it is through Yahoo, I believe.

My CompuServe address is still my main email address, believe it or not. And
it's administered by AOL.

The mailboxes are still there, but they're no longer an ISP.

The mailboxes are still there, but they're no longer an ISP. Correct, I think. compuserve.com not an ISP, but cs.com probably still is an ISP.
