View Full Version : [Dixonary] OT: For a Laugh

Way, way off the subject, if you want to have a good laugh, read about
Larry Flynt's endorsement of Mark Sanford in Sanford's bid for a seat in
the House of Representatives for SC (not in my district). When I first
heard about Flynt's endorsement I thought it was a joke. When I learned
it was real, and read what Flynt said, I started to laugh and I thought
I wasn't going to be able to stop. Now I learn (only because of
continued testing of the Firefox "crash" problem, you understand) that a
couple of newspapers have refused to accept Flynt's paid ads for his
endorsement.

For those who are crazy enough to look this up and are wondering about
Mark Sanford: he is the immediately previous governor of South Carolina.
Near the end of his term, he disappeared, and his wife said he was
hiking on the Appalachian Trail. But he was really in Argentina visiting
his "soul mate" (yes, he said this publicly in a TV interview). His wife
has now divorced him and he is going to marry the soul mate (Maria Belen
Chapur).

Yes, it does read, at least in part, like a joke. But there are a couple of
great lines. To save others the search:

Sanford's running against Stephen Colbert's sister.

The line about "you embrace Senator Rand Paul (R-KY)" led me down a path
of mental associations to wonder if Kentucky is the original home of KY
Jelly?

It's hard to say whether Sanford will be helped or harmed by Flynt's
endorsement. Sanford does things himself that make no sense, except
perhaps to him, like going onto his ex-wife's property, a violation of
the divorce terms, to watch football with a son.

- According to the company, "The origins of the brand name 'K-Y' are
unknown. Two popular hypotheses are that it was created in Kentucky, hence
'K-Y', or that the letters represent the key ingredients used to make the
lubricant, neither of which are
proven."[1]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-Y_Jelly#cite_note-1>Historically
the main ingredient is methyl
cellulose <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methyl_cellulose> with carboxymethyl
cellulose <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carboxymethyl_cellulose> as a
constituent ingredient.
