Here, for your delectation, is an attractive array inventive defs, all
claiming to be The Real Thing. It would have been a longer list had I not
invoked Rule 4(c). (That’s the one about combining defs.) It’s now up to
you to cast your vote for two of them by public reply to this message by
1pm Friday BST. That *should* be 05:00 PDT, 08:00 EDT and 22:00 AEST.
Choose wisely . . .

1 Substance found in the lining of the first three compartments of a
ruminant's stomach to prevent premature absorption of partially digested
food.

2 A box in the form of a book, used for holding botanical specimens,
papers, maps, etc.

3 To dissolve by absorbing moisture from the air; deliquesce.

4 The study of human bodily secretions.

5 To transport water vapor.

6 Unsavory; distasteful.

7 A ridge in an ice field.

8 To make or become moist.

9 To remove moisture from an enclosed atmosphere.

10 Any one of the small branches on a stag's head. [Obs.]

11 A material similar to varnish which protects the wing cases of several
species of beetles.

12 The detritus remaining from a compost heap when the well-rotted compost
is removed for use.

13 [also KHUMECT] In Islamic law; a divorce initiated by a wife, which
requires that the husband receive financial compensation.

14 Having the wings and appendages enclosed or covered by a secretion that
forms a hard shell or horny case, as the pupae of most butterflies and moths

12 for "detritus" and 14 for "pupae" even though it surely is related to
moisture per vox pop.

Tricky one, this. /Very/ tricky. I think I've eliminated eight of the 14.
Unfortunately, the remaining six are all very appealing. Three verbs, two
adjectives, and a noun. There goes one of the adjectives. And a verb. Now
what? . . . Okay, I'm going with one of the verbs and the remaining adjective:

From an interesting selection, I'll select -

8To make or become moist.
and
14Having the wings and appendages enclosed or covered by a secretion
that forms a hard shell or horny case, as the pupae of most butterflies
and moths.

Thanks,

Chuck
