There are a total of 17 definitions for ZAATAR. Please vote for your two
favorites, by public reply to this message, before deadline, which is 3:00
PM EST on Sunday, March 03, 2013, or Noon PST .

1. A composite stone (quartz, schorl, and hornblende) in
the walls of tin and copper lodes.

2. A minor ancient Egyptian god of footwear.

3. The final judgment of all mankind.

4. A burnous.

5. An Indian stringed instrument; also called _sitar//_.

6. Ancient Greek officer in charge of gymnastic exercises.

7. Tasseled cap worn by the original North African troops
known as Zouaves before enlistment by Muslims and Berbers
was banned and the regiment became an all-French force.

8. A small stringed musical instrument similar to an oud.

9. [Afrik.] An East Indian stringed instrument.

10. A clerical assistant to the Imam at a mosque.

11. In south-east Asia, a lateen-rigged sailing vessel with
one or more masts.

12. The practice of self-discipline.

13. A kind of three-stringed lyre found in East Africa.

14. A Middle Eastern mixture of herbs and spices typically
containing thyme and marjoram or oregano along with sumac,
sesame seeds, salt, and other ingredients.

15. Any representation of an elephant with its trunk
curving up, indicating happiness or good fortune. (Pash.)

16. A farming tool resembling a short-handled hoe used by
Egyptian fellahin (peasants).

17. A small Middle Eastern fishing vessel, used primarily
on lakes and rivers.
