View Full Version : [Dixonary] BYCOKET defs

Dave Cunningham
February 16th, 2013, 07:35 AM
Note: BYCOKET is the most common English spelling of this word. If anyone
asks, they will get a guaranteed 2 total points I appear to have found a
typo - but it pronounced as though it were a "k" so should not affect many
defs..

1. a Slovak constable.

2. erratic; unpredictable.

3. A recumbent tricycle.

4. one of the rare earth elements.

5. croquet played on bicycles [mod. rules]

6. small flat moulding around a column

7. [Fin.] a highly committed Argentine tango dancer.

8. A Swedish three-legged folding stool used by hunters.

8. an early short-barreled pocket pistol intended for self-defence

10. a two-masted sailing vessel formerly used for coastal trading in the
Baltic.

11. an ornamental cap with peaks at both front and back worn in the 15c.

12. a saponaceous camphorated liniment, usually containing essential
oils.

13. Belarusian style shallow fried potato pancakes made of grated
potatoes.

14. Any of several small African deer of the genus _Mazama_, having short
unbranched horns.

15. An Estonian pastry of twisted dough, formed into a ring and topped
with honey and chopped nuts.

16. a large hawk of eastern Europe, _Accipiter bicolor_, dark brown with a
speckled breast of a distinctive reddish hue.
17. an outer garment of reindeer hide worn by the Sami (Lapp) people of
northern Finland and northeastern Russia.
18. a cosmetic preparation unique to the Incas; made by reducing guinea
pig blood to a thick paste and used to
protect the skin against the sun.

Vote for two of the defs without looking anything up before 6 p.m. EST on
Monday 18 February. :ong delay is due to me possibly being out of town on
my birthday.

Noting that "bykoket" is, indeed, a spelling of the word - which I just
double-checked.

I will pick numbers 2 and 10.

In a message dated 2/16/2013 8:35:58 A.M. Eastern Standard Time,
cunn5393 (AT) bellsouth (DOT) net writes:

2. erratic; unpredictable.
10. a two-masted sailing vessel formerly used for coastal trading in the
Baltic.

I'll also note that two of the definitions are numbered 8, with none
numbered 9.

It sounds like something sold at Ikea so I'll take the three legged stool

"Most common"? There's a dictionary that supposes this is a word common
enough to have two English spellings? And it should have been /more/ common.

Sorry. It's one of those grumpy days.

I'll try:

8. A Swedish three-legged folding stool used by hunters.

and

14. Any of several small African deer of the genus _Mazama_, having short
unbranched horns.

Dave,

From a curiously varied list I'll select -

10. a two-masted sailing vessel formerly used for coastal trading in the
Baltic.

and

11. an ornamental cap with peaks at both front and back worn in the 15c.

Thanks,
