View Full Version : [Dixonary] CORRECTED Posting of Defs for OCTROI

Matthew
December 18th, 2012, 02:31 PM
One of our astute colleagues noticed that I listed the same definition
twice in my last posting. That's what I get for trying to rearrange
all the definitions in an aesthetically pleasing manner. I knew the
deal was going too smoothly. So, here is the corrected list.

Vote for 2 before the deadline, which has now been extended:
Wednesday, December 19th, 4:00 PM Eastern Time.

New players are welcome, even if you didn't enter a definition this
round. Don't look in a dictionary. Happy voting.

Down to three...and, as usual, I'll probably eliminate the wrong one. <sigh>

20: a classical structure consisting of a circle of pillars

Um, previously 17 and 18 were the same. You have replaced 18, the
duplicated kaleidoscope, with a definition not in the previous list at
all, i.e. the royal great grandparent.

I suppose voting will be OK, as no one is likely to vote for both 17 and
18 in the old list.

I'll take 5 and 21 please . . .

I'll go for 5 and 10.

I'll take 5 and 10.

By the way, apologies to anyone who thought that my earlier post that read "1" was a vote. It was a reply to Mike Shefler's question: What's the difference between 17 and 18? In an admittedly weak attempt at humor, I was simply doing what my elementary school teacher taught us to do when we studied subtraction.

Thanks Matthew.

I'll try

10: a tax levied at the gates of French cities on articles brought in

and

21: an occasion in law where a multiple-judge panel will issue individual
opinions from the members, rather than a single finding from the entire panel

I'll go with 10 and 21 for no particular reason:

13 (which makes no obvious sense) and the ever-popular 18
