We will be on the road all day Monday and Tuesday, so please don't vote for my definition. LOL! And in a way I hope that I miss the correct definition (which is normal for me anyhow). :-)

To me these seem quite safe:

12. A board game popular in Pakistan.

16. An Indonesian card game.

Stumpers every one. I'll roll the dice and come up with numbers 5 and 15
(although it's hard to roll a 15 with only two dice).

5. A wrapping garment of fine, undyed cotton worn by a young girl as a
sign of
her engagement or betrothal [Somali: _hesa_ betrothed].

15. _Hind._ superior social status due to acquired wealth or rank rather
than
caste.

I've been waiting for some kind of revelation, given the longish deadline,
but none has occurred or is likely to, so I may as well go ahead and vote.
It says "India" to me, which still leaves a number of choices. I'll try:

6. [Assam] a lentil [Lathyrus sativus; Indian pea] commonly used as one of
the ingredients for dahl.

and

11. One-stringed instrument used in the Baul music tradition of Bengali
culture.

With no great confidence:

6. [Assam] a lentil [Lathyrus sativus; Indian pea] commonly used as one of
the ingredients for dahl.
16. An Indonesian card

Tony -

They may be few, but they're varied. I'll go for -

6. [Assam] a lentil [Lathyrus sativus; Indian pea] commonly used as one
of the ingredients for dahl.

and

9. The bearer of the regimental flag in the Ottoman army.

Thanks,

Chuck
