Folks,

Here are 20 definitions of "tahr," one from a standard dictionary and 19 submitted by group members. Please vote for two choices by 8 pm EDT, Tuesday, July 3 (5 pm Tuesday Pacific time, 1 am Wednesday UK time, 2 am Wednesday in continental Europe, etc.).

1. A bordello.

2. A mischievous genie.

3. [Scots] A glacial lake.

4. A nomadic Mongolian tribe.

5. To be lazy or irresponsible.

6. A simple raft, or wide canoe.

7. A dignitary of the Indian court.

8. [OE] a bull (poss. fr. Lat. taurus)

9. [Basque] Extremely bright sunshine.

10. The reflexed margin of the trilobite carapace.

11. Any of several Old World goats of genus Hemitragus.

12. Assemblage of swimming organisms in a body of water.

13. The toxin secreted by the poisonous fly agaric mushroom.

14. Honorary title given to the widow of a Malay raja or prince.

15. In Islam, "That which is allowed;" clean; pure. (The converse of "haram" - unclean.)

16. The burial cloth used after the ceremonial purification washing of a corpse. [Heb. tohorah, to purify]

17. A small two-masted, square-rigged sailing boat used along the Nile River and in parts of the Mediterranean.

18. A condiment of South Asian origin typically made of fruits or vegetables pickled in oil, lemon juice, or vinegar, salt and spices.

19. A kind of topography found in areas of readily dissolved rock (usually limestone) and predominantly underground drainage and marked by numerous abrupt ridges, fissures, sink-holes, and caverns.

The initial choice of words from me contained an error in that the
Mongolian tribe I had selected came through as 14, when in fact it
should have read 4. So my choices should be 4 and 10.
